Growing

Because these peppers grow in an upright, erect fashion, they are particularly well-suited for container gardening or small garden beds where space is limited. When starting your plants indoors, wait to transplant them into the garden until the soil has warmed and the danger of frost has passed. To ensure a productive harvest, maintain a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0 and provide consistent moisture, as the plants thrive in warm weather but do not tolerate waterlogged conditions.

Since these plants are capable of self-pollination, you do not need multiple plants to produce fruit, though they do benefit from the presence of pollinators. As the fruit develops, you will notice it transition from a pale yellow to a bright, vibrant red. It is vital to harvest the peppers once they reach this mature color, as they do not continue to ripen once they have been picked from the plant.

To preserve your harvest, you can dry the peppers, pickle them, or even freeze them after a quick blanching process. If you plan to store them in the refrigerator, keep them unwashed to prevent premature spoilage. For long-term use, drying or canning remains an excellent way to enjoy the heat of these small, pungent fruits well after the growing season ends.
